We got received same error on all of our devices which is, Failed to acquire location, error: -77

Dear Nordic Team,

Today, as of January 30, 2025, our devices started giving the same error and we are no longer able to receive any location data from nRF Cloud and even provisioning is not possible. We are waiting for your urgent support on this issue. Thanks in advance.

Note: We have the same issue with different types of devices with different firmware that have the ability to receive location data from nRF Cloud. None of them are giving location data at the moment.

Best regards,
Semih

  • Hi Cole, Thanks for your support. It work for us too!

We would like to ask two questions. Firstly, why its happened and what precautions can we take to avoid the same thing if this problem happens again? Could you please inform about ways to stay on the safe side in similar issues?

Secondly, is that issue affected only the IoT devices which are communicating directly with nRF Cloud or is it affected also the users which is communicating with nRF Cloud through Proxy server?

    Best regards,
    Semih

  • Hi Semih,

This issue occurred when we switched over to a newly developed set of REST endpoints for our location services. We had a false sense of security since all the tests were passing. While we're still investigating the full cause of the issue, we have identified the holes in our test coverage. We're patching those holes to prevent these problems in the future.

This only affected IoT devices connecting directly with nRF Cloud via the REST API. Devices using MQTT were not affected. Nor were customers that use a proxy server.

    Best regards,

    Cole
