NRF24L01P clock input

We have a very successful wireless MIDI transceiver with the NRF24L01P for more than 11 years, used by stars like Chic Corea, John McLaughlin and Herbie Hancock. Now we are preparing a new version of the product, using a different processor than before. Our goal is to minimize PCB area and cost, so we want to drive both the processor and the NRF24L01P from the same 16 MHz clock. Up to now we used the quartz crystal TSX-3225 16.0000MF18X-AC0 connected directly to the 24L01P. Now we would connect it to the processor, and use a digital clock output of the processor to drive the NRF24L01P. Both chips are supplied from 3.3V. The data sheet is not very clear about the specification using the XC1 crystal input, is it OK to connect a 3.3V digital clock signal to it? The NRF24L01P data sheet what I have is revision 1.0 dated from September 2008, and I cannot find any more recent data sheet here.
