Device Overlay file creation

Hello ,

I have taken reference project which use all leads and buttons of Evaluation module NRF52833. 

I want to create overlay file for this project and remove few led and buttons . 

How I can create overlay file from base .dts file ? 

Which things I should take care while creating overlay file ?

Hi Naresh, 
You can use Devicetree editor in VSCode to create an overlay file. 

After that you can use Ctrl+Space to add node into the file.

I am using default DTS file for NRF52833DK. For my beacon , I want to delete some LEDs and Buttons. So how I can delete/modify existing configuration using overlay file? Can you give sample overlay file which delete some node and modify existing node ?

Hi Naresh, 
You can set the node status to disabled. 

For example something like this: 

&uart1 {

    status = "disabled";

    compatible = "nordic,nrf-uarte";

};

If you want to modify existing node, just add the modification into the overlay file. 

If you want to have bigger change, then cloning the board files to create your own board could be a better solution. Have you looked at the devacademy ?
