Software IDE for nrf52840

Hello,

I am new to developing with Nordic products. I have experience working with other microcontrollers like Microchip and STM32. Both of those have their own IDEs. Does Nordic have an IDE for their microcontrollers? The only option I have found is the extensions within VS Code. Is that the only option?

Hi sam,

Nordic primarily supports developement through Visual Studio Code as you are aware.. It is the recommended and officially supported IDE for Nordics's products. See here: https://docs.nordicsemi.com/bundle/ncs-latest/page/nrf/releases_and_maturity/releases/release-notes-2.8.0.html#ide_and_tool_support 

It might be possible to use other development environments if you prefer. However, note that it may require more setup and does not have official support from Nordic.
