Is FCC certification required for a certified board (xiao nrf52840) + relay module?

I have a very simple product which consists in a Xiao Nrf52840 board (which is FCC certified) wired to a 5v relay module. I was wondering if I would need additional FCC certification or if I can inherit the Xiao Nrf52840's board certification? If I need additional FCC certification, how much would it cost approximately? Thanks.

  • If you don't have other digital electronics/connections in it, you can use the Xiao certification. If you're actuating the 5V relay from the module, then I'd guess it's pretty gray. Assuming you're actuating the relay slower than KHz range stuff, I'd just use the module cert..

If you're using that module as the MCU on your own board that has other things on it (e.g. QSPI memory or I2C peripherals), then you need to do FCC certs for it but it's much easier than doing a full certification.

Last stateside quote we got for that sort of thing was on the order of $20K - YRMV...
