Low temperature storage specification (nRF5340 and nRF7002)

Hello,

Both nRF5340 and nRF7002 list minimum storage temperature of -40C. We would like to understand what environmental testing has been done to reach this storage range listing.

If -55C storage conditions are anticipated in the end use, does existing test data cover this scenario? If we expose to -55C, can you advise on any anticipated failure modes, or reduced reliability, etc.?

In a different post ( https://devzone.nordicsemi.com/f/nordic-q-a/104998/maxmimum-short-term-temperature-of-nrf9160-in-storage-state-not-powered/452221 ) I see reference to storage temp and thermal cycling testing (to -55C). Any information like this on nRF5340 and nRF7002 could be very helpful and is appreciated.

Thank you!

  • Hi

We don't have any test data outside of what the SoCs are specified for, as we test them particularly for these temperatures to comply with industry standards. So storing or using the nRF5340 or nRF7002 at temperatures below -40C is not tested by us and outside of specification. This means that we don't know how it will behave if exposed to temperatures outside of this, and reduced reliability and failures must be expected.

    Best regards,

    Simon
