about RED for CE certification

I have a few questions about the new privacy requirements added to the RED for CE certification starting in August 2025:

  1. Does ANT+ still comply with these new requirements?
  2. Can the nRF52832 and nRF52840 ICs meet the hardware-related certification requirements?
  3. Are there any requirements for the Bluetooth pairing mechanism, such as mandating a manual trigger (e.g., a button press) for the broadcaster to initiate advertising, to prevent unauthorized pairing by others?
  4. During Bluetooth pairing, is it mandatory to use the built-in Peer Manager to achieve encryption, or are other methods acceptable?
  5. Is SDK 15.3 still usable for compliance, or is it necessary to switch to SDK 17?

  • Does ANT+ still comply with these new requirements?

You can read more about this here https://www.thisisant.com/business/go-ant/ant-brand/ and

Can the nRF52832 and nRF52840 ICs meet the hardware-related certification requirements?

Yes, but the cyber security requirements is specific to your product.

Are there any requirements for the Bluetooth pairing mechanism, such as mandating a manual trigger (e.g., a button press) for the broadcaster to initiate advertising, to prevent unauthorized pairing by others?

This should not be a problem as long as you have some kind of pairing mechanism

During Bluetooth pairing, is it mandatory to use the built-in Peer Manager to achieve encryption, or are other methods acceptable?

No requirement here, the link will be encrypted when the device is in connection.

Is SDK 15.3 still usable for compliance, or is it necessary to switch to SDK 17?

15.3 is very old and doesn't have all errata fixes so it's recommended to use SDK 17.
