Google Home commissioning Fails [Matter]

Hi,

I’ve compiled and flashed the Matter light bulb example from Nordic onto the nRF5340 DK.

I'm using the nRF52840 Dongle as the OpenThread Border Router, with a Raspberry Pi .  My Google Home Mini is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the Raspberry Pi, and I’ve verified that both devices are on the same network and have internet access.

However, when I attempt to commission the device using the Google Home app, it discovers the device and successfully scans the QR code, but then shows a message indicating that a Thread Border Router is required and that I need to connect one to configure the device again.

Given that both the devices are on the same network, do I still need to use a Google Nest Hub or another Google-certified Thread Border Router for this process?

Additionally, I’d like to understand if any of the following might be causing the issue:

• Does the Google Home Mini support Thread commissioning, or is a Google Nest Hub mandatory?

• Is there a compatibility issue between the Google Home app and a custom Thread Border Router like the nRF52840 dongle setup?

  Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The Google Home Mini does not support Thread Border Router functionality. For the Google Home ecosystem, you need a Google Nest Hub 2nd generation or a Google Nest Hub Max to serve as a Thread Border Router for Matter devices. See  Matter: Testing the nRF Connect platform with Apple, Google and Samsung ecosystems 

Is there a compatibility issue between the Google Home app and a custom Thread Border Router like the nRF52840 dongle setup?

 The Google Home app specifically looks for Google-certified Thread Border Routers, not custom ones like your nRF52840 Dongle setup.
