NRF21540

Hi,

we are looking into incorporating a NRF52 module into our control units, but to allow extending the antenna position away from the case through male-female SMA cables it seems we would need to add a power amplifier chip. We are looking into the NRF21540. My question: where ideally should the amplifier be placed? Directly at the module or at the end of the extending cable near the antenna?

Thanks!

  • Hi, Daria.

To get this straight. Are you asking whether you should place the nRF21540 on the same board as the nRF52, or if it is better to place it on a different board, connected through a coaxial cable, which would be closer to the antenna?

Remember that there are also some additional communication signals between the nRF21540 and the nRF52, which will require additional connections. To make things easier for yourselves, I'd think the best solution would be to place the nRF21540 close to the nRF52. The nRF21540 DK can be used as a reference for your design. Its hardware files are downloadable from here.

    Best regards,
