We're designing a board using the Thingy:91X as a reference design. We're trying to determine the best approach to antenna tuning.
On the original Thingy 91, it uses the MAGPIO ports to control the antenna tuning circuits for the nRF91. This makes sense because the documentation describes these as a "time-accurate control of RF components and devices, such as antenna tuners".
On the newer Thingy 91X though, it changed to use an SPI-controlled switch for antenna tuning circuit selection. This seems to add complexity and risk, without adding any notable benefit.
We're seeking clarification on why this change was made.
