Want to profiling a chargeable battery with nPM1300EK & nPM PowerUP but can't

Hi,

I want to use nPM1300EK、nPM PowerUP (official v2.1.1) profiling a chargeable battery, whose rated capacity、standard charging current is 2000mAh and 400mA respectively, however before start doing that, I found the limit of the battery capacity can be set is only 800mAh on nPM PowerUP.

After encountering that issue, I tried to see if there are some tickets related about and found an older ticket, which seems to use nPM PowerUP profiling a battery with 3000mAh capacity accoding to the picture in the ticket.

https://devzone.nordicsemi.com/f/nordic-q-a/117327/how-to-increase-the-battery-capacity-beyond-3000mah-for-battery-profiling/515397

On the other hand, there are some default battery profile in UI whose capacity is also bigger then 800mAh.

May I ask if the battery capacity limitation when profiling comes from the UI or the nPM1300?

  • Hi  ,

the capacity value in the GUI is used to determine the discharge current for the profiling process. You can safely set 800 mAh for the larger battery. The profiling process will calculate the actual capacity regardless of the value you enter there.

The profiling process for batteries larger than 800 mAh will take longer and the "time remaining" estimate is likely to be off. This is due to the current sinking capabilities on the nPM1300-EK FG board not being designed for large batteries, but it does not affect the quality of the resulting battery model.
