New to the forum — working with nRF9160 on real-world field deployments

Hi all,

I’m Bruce — first-time poster but have been working with the nRF9160 on and off for a while now, mainly in outdoor, power-constrained telemetry and monitoring applications.

I’m not a full-time embedded engineer — more on the product/dev side — but I’ve ended up working across the stack on a field device that’s now seeing some real-world action. Power management has been a big focus for us, especially around deep sleep currents and wake strategies. The Nordic Power Profiler has been a massive help in breaking that down — I love how clearly it reveals what’s actually being consumed by the device in real time and can sample logs to very long periods.

Most of my work has been on devices for remote sensing in pretty rugged conditions — low power, long life, and reliable connectivity are the name of the game.

Looking forward to learning from others here — and happy to share any practical lessons we’ve picked up on the way to getting something field-ready.

Cheers,
Bruce

  • Hi Bruce,

Welcome! It's always great to hear from folks working acrss the stack, especially when it comes to real-world deploymnts. The nRF9160 is a solid choice for remote sensing, and it’s great to hear that  you’ve been using tools like the Power Profiler Kit and find it valuable for understanding and optimizing power consumption. Feel free t share your practical lessons or ask about any specific challenges: there’s a lot of collective experience here. In case you have any doubts or needs support on your project, you can open a Devzone ticket and we'll try our best to guide you through it. :)

    Best Regards,
