nRF9151 Cellular roaming support

We're currently evaluating the cellular capabilities of the nRF91 modem using the nRF9151 DK. We've encountered issues with roaming: when the devkit is taken to another country, it fails to connect to any network.

We’ve confirmed that our SIM configuration and operator settings are correct. A competing modem using the same SIM is able to connect successfully when roaming, so the issue appears specific to the nRF91 modem.

Are there any specific modem settings or configurations required to enable or support roaming?

At the moment, I don't have access to the devkit, so I’m unable to share logs or additional diagnostics. However, I can follow up with that information later if needed.

    there isn't so much that can be checked without logs and modem trace unfortunately. Have you tried the SIM card on home network? Or is it exclusively roaming SIM?

    Do you know if the SIM is provisioned for LTE/NB-IoT and not regular LTE? Do you know if it requires manually configuring APN?

  • Yes, the SIM is provisioned correctly — we’re able to connect to the network in the home country without any issues. The SIM is exclusively roaming, but we don’t experience any problems with it in general. The issue only arises when the device leaves the home country; at that point, it fails to connect to network.

    I will try to collect logs and a modem trace the next time I have the opportunity to take the device abroad again and I will share them.
