Channel sounding requirement hardware

Hi, our company is currently using nRF52832/RSSI feature to provide simple asset tracking/location service. Would like to know if we want to improve the accuracy by using channel sounding technology (and avoid multi-antenna requirement in AOA). Is upgrading from nRF52832 to nRF54L15 in our beacon device sufficient? Or we also need to develop  BLE Tag using nRF54L familty SOC. In short, to perform channel sounding distance measurement, do both initiator and reflector need to be nRF54L SOC?

  • Hi Alex,

To perform Bluetooth Channel Sounding distance measurement, both the initiator and the reflector must support the Channel Sounding feature as defined in the Bluetooth 6.0 specification. This means both the initiator and reflector should be based on the nRF54L family. Upgrading only one side (e.g., just the beacon) is not sufficient if the other side is still using nRF52832.

    Regards,

    Swathy
