nPM2100 Low Power Mode Max Output Current / Threshold

The nPM2100 datasheet (v1.0) provides Figure 8: Load current triggering mode change vs. VOUT.

Can you confirm:

1. Consider the system is in Low Power mode. If the load current then surpasses the value in Figure 8, then will the system will transition from Low Power mode to High Power mode?
2. If the system is blocked from entering High Power mode (NOHP), does Figure 8 effectively describe the max output current in Low Power mode?

  • Hello,

    1. Consider the system is in Low Power mode. If the load current then surpasses the value in Figure 8, then will the system will transition from Low Power mode to High Power mode?

So yes, In Auto mode, BOOST switches automatically between High Power, Low Power, Ultra-Low Power, and Pass-through modes depending on the load current and output voltage. See the section Mode selection. And also the transition can happen also from ULP to HP mode directly depending on condition

    2. If the system is blocked from entering High Power mode (NOHP), does Figure 8 effectively describe the max output current in Low Power mode?

It is not a hard limit. You can draw more current from the boost converter in ULP/LP mode. The graph just shows where the transition occurs when AUTO mode is used. Driving very high currents in ULP/LP mode can cause increased ripple at the output, and at some point, HP mode may also become more efficient than LP/ULP mode.
