In the world of nRF5 SDK for Mesh v5.0.0, does DFU support updating Mesh nodes directly using a mobile app?

Hi,

Currently I am using nRF52840 as nodes for mesh network. However, by reading the sdk5 documents and example, I did not see any clues to update the firmware with DFU on a smart phone app when it is run as a Mesh node? Therefore does anyone know how to  implement this function to the mesh node?

However if I want to update a “normal” mesh node with nRF5 SDK directly using a mobile app, how can I integrate the standard BLE bootloader into the mesh application?

Hi John, 
A mesh application is no different from a normal BLE application, you just need to implement the BLE bootloader the same way as you add a normal BLE application. If you don't plan to use a button to switch the application to DFU mode (switch to bootloader to receive new image mode) you will have to see how you send a command to the device to enter DFU mode.

I have a further question. As we know, if the node is provisioned, using the following app, it can not be scanned. Therefore, actually, how does the bootloader work? Is it necessary to hit the button to reset the node and then turn into the boot mode? Or is it possible the node remains provisioned while the node is being updated?

Hi John, 
You will need to implement either a buttonless BLE service for the App to set the device to DFU mode (equivalent to hit the button and reset the node). 
Please refer to our buttonless example (ble_app_buttonless_dfu).

Or you can implement your way of sending the device to DFU mode (via a Mesh message for example).
