Feature Request: AI Extension for VS Code in nRF Extension Pack

Hello Nordic Team,

I’d like to request the addition of an AI-powered extension as part of the existing nRF Extension Pack for VS Code. The idea is to integrate an AI assistant that can support developers during firmware development with nRF Connect SDK.

Proposed Features:

  1. Coding Assistance – AI should be able to answer questions directly in VS Code (similar to a coding copilot) and help developers while writing application or driver code.

  2. Error Analysis – If a build fails, the AI should analyze the error messages and provide potential solutions or guidance.

  3. Peripheral & Sensor Integration – If a user provides a PDF/datasheet of a peripheral or sensor, the AI should be able to parse it and generate corresponding driver or integration code compatible with nRF Connect SDK.

  4. Future Improvements – Over time, additional AI-powered enhancements could be added (e.g., project optimization suggestions, debugging guidance, low-power design recommendations).

Motivation:
This feature would significantly improve developer productivity and reduce onboarding complexity with nRF Connect SDK. It would also lower the barrier for beginners while accelerating advanced development.

Request:
For now, the initial step would be to add an AI extension within the nRF Extension Pack for VS Code that can handle the above basic use cases (coding help, build error analysis, and datasheet-based driver generation).

Thank you for considering this feature request. I believe this will be a huge value addition to the nRF developer community.
