nRF7002 VBAT supply

The power domains for the nRF70002 aren't very clearly documented in the product specifications, so we're not entirely clear on how we should be connecting the VBAT pin.

Should the VBAT pin be connected to a power supply/battery at all times, or switched along with the power for the rest of the device?

We're used to the VBAT pin on other wireless devices being documented for memory retention during power-off, but there's no note about that for the nRF7002 so we're not sure whether or not to switch it's supply with the primary device power.

  • Hi

The VBAT pin should indeed be powered, and VBAT must be powered with a VDD supply voltage between 2.9-4.5V.

Important to note is the Supply sequencing requirements in the product specification, that describes VBAT as one of the required supplies that must be supplied in order to power up.

    • Supply VBAT/BUCKVBAT/BUCKVBATS/AFEVBAT
    • Wait ≥ 6 ms
    • Assert BUCKEN
    • Wait ≥ 1 ms
    • Supply IOVDD

    Best regards,

    Simon
