Reselling nRF52840 Dongle with our own firmware

Hello DevZone,

Our team has been working on a customized firmware solution that has been flashed onto the nRF52840 Dongle to meet specific requirements.

Usually, DK is not meant for resale, can someone please tell me if it applies for Dongle as well.. However, I’ve come across a few sources suggesting that if the firmware is custom-built, it might still be possible to sell the final solution.

Could you please confirm if this is accurate?
If not, we’d appreciate guidance on the correct approach to legally commercialize our solution, whether it involves using the nRF52840 SoC on a custom board or completing additional certifications.

Looking forward to your insights.
Thank you in advance!

Best regards,
Yaswanth Pukkalla

  • You can use the Dongle as part of a final product, Nordic licensing allows that.

The Dongle is not FCC certified so that will have to be done by you if you want to sell into markets requiring this. For the CE certification I would check with your preferred lab if the Nordic certification is enough or if you will have to do your own.
