Scanner suddenly stops producing advertising reports

While scanning for devices with NCS 2.9.2 my device suddenly stops sending adv reports after a few hours.

It seems like this might have been fixed in a recent version, since something similar is mentioned in the bug fixes here https://docs.nordicsemi.com/bundle/ncs-latest/page/nrfxlib/softdevice_controller/CHANGELOG.html#d2749e1878.

Does this mean I have to port my code to try to get it to work with 3.1, or will a bugfix patch come out for 2.9? I've also tried using the open-source bluetooth controller in zephyr, and that one seems to work fine.

Hi,

The issue is the same as the one described in the DevZone ticket nrfxlib v3.0.2: BLE scanning results stop being reported. Possible workarounds are either to not use extended scanning, or to restart advertising if no advertisements have been received for some time, or at a given interval. Proper fix is to upgrade to the nRF Connect SDK release with the fix (v3.1.0 or later). There are no backports expected, no.

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately this workaround is unacceptable because I don't control what the devices around me send, or what type of advertisement they choose to use. So I have to use extended scanning in order to see them.

Hi,

Then I am afraid that the remaining options are either a workaround of restarting advertising (either on a general timer, or on a timer if no advertisements received within a given timeout), or a fix of upgrading to nRF Connect SDK v3.1.0 or later.

Yes, it would be very difficult to fix this in a way where you still stay on 2.9 or 3.0.

The fix would be to port the project to nRF Connect SDK v3.1 or later.
