Inquiry Regarding Location Service Support for Non-Nordic Devices

Hello,

I came across the Location Services page for nRF Cloud and noticed that it supports multiple location technologies, which is quite promising. One line that stood out to me was: "This is designed specifically for Nordic silicon."

I’d like to ask whether there is any provision—or future plan—to support location estimation for non-Nordic devices via MQTT or API.

We are currently in an evaluation phase, exploring various location service providers, particularly for cellular-based positioning. It would be very helpful to understand whether such support is possible or planned, as it could influence our decision-making.

  • Hi Maulik,

nRF Cloud location services are for all customers, regardless of hardware. Many customers use what we call a Cloud to Cloud (C2C) solution where the devices communicate with their cloud and proxy to nRF Cloud Location Services using our REST API. Here is a guide to help with the setup if this sounds like it would fit your use case. We have full support for cellular based positioning including LTE, LTE-CATM and NB-IOT. Here is a guide for that as well.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Cole
