Simultaneous/Switched use of 9151 DECT NR+ modem and LTE modem

Currently (as far as i can tell) the firmware for the DECT-NR+ mode is mutually exclusive with the LTE firmware, and you cannot mix the two wireless modes as you have to flash a very different firmware to enable the NR+ mode.

Even if its not entirely simultaneous, I can see BoM cost optimisations if we would be able to use a single chip for both of these, even if we have to "hard-switch" between the two modes in software.

Is this a technical limitation or is this something that will eventually become possible in a future firmware revision?

Both LTE and DECT-NR+ are supported on nrf9151. Separation between LTE and NR+ is done on the firmware level. Each of the technologies has its own firmware. Please have a look at the Note from DECT NR+ documentation.
Note: While running DECT NR+ firmware, the nRF9151 SiP does not support the LTE modem or GPS receiver. See the LTE modem section for more information on alternative firmware.

Is this a technical limitation or is this something that will eventually become possible in a future firmware revision?

Do you consider using LTE and DECT-NR+ simultaneously?
Do you think of switching between LTE and DECT-NR+ without changing the firmware?

    Best regards,
    Dejan

  • Hi Dejan,

    Pretty much this:

Do you think of switching between LTE and DECT-NR+ without changing the firmware?

I understand that you cannot use both technologies simultaneously, but being able to switch the mode without reprogramming the firmware could be useful
