The 5V pin is connected directly to the 5V on the USB (VBUS) when the power switch is on, see the PCA10040 hardware files. So the limitation is more how much your USB can deliver.

Does the answer given to the question in the link apply to the USB-port on the DK that I am refering to?That maximum current it can deliver is 500 mA?
500 mA applies for USB 2.0 hub, if you use a power adapter you should be able to draw more.
