Could you expand a bit on this? I am not sure if I understand. What is this main CPU board? And what answer show that you need to look elsewhere?

I have a cpu board running debian I wrote an I2c service communications with the NRF5340.
I want the I2c service to query the NRF5340 for information.

Yeah that post is for the nRF5 SDK as well, so I would recommend you to rather use some steps made for the new nRF Connect SDK. This would be a better point to start off.
