Problem originally due to installation and failure of Gas Smart meter - a common problem in the UK with up to 4+million similar customers. Issue is Smart meters on external walls unable to communicate with indoor Hub.
Solution - use a zigbee extender which is working, but although conncting with the hub, there is no way of knowing whether the Smart Gas meter is broadcasting. Hence set up the MacAir as a zigbee sniffer using the sonoff nRF52840 MKD USB Dongle and Wireshark.
Instructions are on the Nordic website - and in doc nRF Sniffer for 802.15.4
i) Dongle is detected as external USB device - gives serial number
ii) Need to update firmware (assumed) Dongle flashes red briefly when plugged in
iii) Shows up as a device in the nRF Connect. But atempting to install the .hex file fails even although the device is listed.
iv) Mac uses jLink which is also installed
How to solve? For example is there an additional driver required , everything tried so far fails - and the problem seems fairly common from other comments from MacUsers
