nrf54 Series Distance Measurement Options Compatibility

We are evaluating the nrf54 series chips for a new product. We currently have a product that uses the nrf52 series and the distance measurement library. I see that the nrf54 series instead uses channel sounding as an option for distance measurement, which is nice for compatibility with external devices. Are there plans to develop a BLE mesh model integration for channel sounding measurement like the distance measurement library provides?

Will there be a cross-compatible way to measure distance between nrf52 and nrf54 series devices? The nrf54 series is a tempting mid-life upgrade for the old device due to lower cost and power consumption, but it would need to work with existing devices in the field.

I don't think it's realistic that distance measurement library will be ported to the nRF54-series, for the nRF54-series the channel sounding (which is part of the Bluetooth core spec) is prioritized. We don't have any overview of what may be coming to the BLE models in future (please reach out to our sales team for roadmap related questions, use contact us and sales related questions on our main home page).
