Hi Nordic

We would like to be able to read out the serial number off our devices, without connecting to them,

We have not enabled RFID on the product, but would like to have a behaviour like this.

Is it possble to wake the BLE reciever when a specific pattern is recived and then let the device broadcast its seriarlnumber for 30 secs.

What does it cost in power usage to do this,

We have an accelrometer, so we can also only do it when the device is handled

Not possible: Your idea would need to consume full RX active current because you needed to keep the 2.4 GHZ receiver on all the time.

Normal BTLE advertizing would consume orders of magnitude less power...

Then it is the RFID way to go. Does it need batterypower to respond or can it be poweren by the antenna ?
