PPK2 shows 60mA without power or DUT

Hi,

just got my PPK2 and noticed some strange behavior:

the only thing connected is USB data/power, no DUT. Power output is off. If you start logging it displays some micro amps (pic 1). Turning power on you see a brief spike (pic 2) but after turning power off again it jumps to 60 mAmps (pic 3) and stays there even after stopping and starting to log again. This also happens if a DUT is connected.

The micro amps will only be displayed after turning on the PPK2 after turning on/off power it will stay at those 60 mAmps. Disconnecting / connecting the PPK2 won't change that.

The software version is 4.3.1

What's going on?

  • Hi,

I am able to reproduce it at my end as well. I am discussing this with experts at the moment and will get back to you.

  • Hi,

    Could you clarify one thing?

At my end, when I enable and disable the power output , I get a current spike of 60mA, just momentarily.

Do you mean to say that you also get this, but then it stays that way, stuck at 60mA, during both instances? (i.e. when you on or off power output)

  • it did re-program the device but, unfortunately, no change.

  • Hi,

Then it does look like a faulty kit. Since you mention that this is a brand new kit and you have not done any hardware changes on it, you might be able to get a replacement.

Please contact the supplier that provided you with the kit, so that they can get you with a replacement.

Please do let me know how it goes.

  • Hi,

I got my replacement but it basically acts the same way. 'Basically' because just the numbers are different. The old one would start misbehaving at a supply voltage above 4.9 and jump to about 50 mAmps, the new one starts after 4.85 and only jumps to about 25 mAmps.

Here the ID-tag for the new one:

I created a small video to make it more obvious what's happening:

Nothing is connected to the device except the data/power USB-cable.

The  voltage at the USB port is above 5 volts and I even tried it with a powered USB hub.

  • Hi,

A momentary spike is expected, but here it looks like it stays at around 25mA, right?

I am discussing this internally with experts, in the meantime, could you confirm whether you have tried changing the USB cables as well?

    -Priyanka

  • yes, it does stay at 25mAmps and I tried various cables (old, new, long, short)
