Latest version of nrfutil.exe does not run on windows 10?

I am trying to 'reinstall' the nrfutil tools on a Windows 10 desktop where the tool has been working since early 2025. 

I downloaded the latest 'nrfutil.exe' from this Nordic website https://www.nordicsemi.com/Products/Development-tools/nRF-Util/Download#infotabs  and placed it in the folder C:\nrfutils\bin.
I then added this folder to the PATH environment variable.
I also removed the '.nrfutil' folder under my HOME folder i.e. C:\Users\<username>\

Just to be sure and play it safe, I even rebooted my desktop.
Then I launch a DOS CMD window and type the command 'nrfutil'.

What I am seeing is that the command does not terminate and I am forced to kill it with a Ctrl-C. 
Even then the task manager shows a heavy load on the CPU, and it only goes down AFTER I forcefully close the DOS command window. 

Any ideas or will I be forced to upgrade my desktop to a Windows 11?

Must be something on your system, freshly downloaded .exe runs here in a win10 install. Exe is signed by Nordic ASA, so I think you would get an error message if the download was corrupted somehow.

It does take a few seconds to execute here on the though, and its possible that your virus scanner goes haywire.

Hi,

As said in the documentation, nrfutil has tier 3 support on Windows 10.

Which means that the tools are supported by design, but are not built or tested after each change. Therefore, the application may or may not work.

Also, if you are on a ARM64 computer, then no, we don't support the ARM64 architecture for any Windows.

I ended up reinstalling Windows 10 and nrfutil now works. I believe that it may have been due to my attempting to execute a BASH script meant to be executed on a Mac.
