PPK2 not detected after DFU via nRF Connect (no LED, no USB recognition)

Hello,

I am currently working with the Nordic Power Profiler Kit II (PPK2) and the Nordic Thingy:53 for current measurement experiments.

Setup

  • I was using PPK2 to measure current consumption from the Thingy:53

  • I connected the device through nRF Connect for Desktop to bluetooth configuration

  • Inside the “Select Device” section, I selected the PPK2

Issue

  • After selecting the PPK2, an automatic SDFU (Serial DFU) upload started

  • I was unable to cancel or interrupt the process

  • The DFU reached 100%, but after that:

    • The PPK2 no longer powers on (no green LED)

    • It is not detected by my computer over USB

    • It appears completely unresponsive

What I have tried

  • Reconnecting USB cable

  • Trying different USB ports

  • Using a different system

No change in behavior.

Questions

  1. Is it possible that the firmware on the PPK2 got corrupted during DFU?

  2. Is there a way to recover or reflash the PPK2 firmware manually (e.g., using nRF Util, recovery mode, or low-level DFU)?

  3. Does PPK2 support any kind of bootloader or recovery mode when it is not detected over USB?

  4. What are the recommended steps to restore the device to working condition?

  5. How can I prevent this issue in the future when using nRF Connect?

Any guidance or recovery procedure would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

  • Hi Nikki,

    Please try the following:

Disconnect all other nordic devices from the computer, turn off the kit and remove it from the plastic by removing the four screws. Insert USB to J2 (USB DATA/POWER). Short a connection between GND (e.g on the four pin power output header) to TP34 on the PPK2. While holding the jumper cable, turn the kit on and remove the jumper. Now the PPK2 should be in bootloader again.

Open the PPK app, and select the device which is now just a serial number.

When selecting it, the user will be prompted to program the application and it should now be working again.

    Best Regards,

    Swathy
