External Antenna nrf52840 dk

Hi everyone,

I need to implement a coded Phy ble communication in a project and for that I wanted to use an nrf52840 dk. However, for it to be able to compete with the Aircable Host XR5 I would use instead, I need to attach an external antenna with a better gain.
I saw the J1 connector, but as I understood it that is not recommended for permanent use. Is it possible to just solder a wire to certain pins to connect an antenna?

Thanks and best regeards,

Paul

  • Hello Asbjørn,

thanks for the quick reply! I am currently evaluating the coded phy solution against the Aircable. The application is to communicate with an implanted bluetooth device. Since the body is moving I dont always have the same signal strength and a high-gain directional antenna also would not work. Coded phy would be an attractive solution, however I am losing the advantage of the high gain omnidirectional antenna I can use with the Aircable. If the solution using coded phy works out in the evaluation, I would design my own Board with an nrf52 or 53 chip on it to use coded phy with.
