Are the First vs last bytes of DEVICEID register same uniform distribution

in Memfault I see the device ID number for each device such as 41EF6BB8FB6C9AF9. Is the distribution for the first 3 bytes the same as the distribution for the last 3 bytes? or is it like  a MAC address where the last 3 bytes are the device ID and the first 3 bytes are the company ID?

  • Hello Andrew,

I have discussed this with the Memfault team and they have mentioned that the device ID which you have given seems to be a fully randomly generated identifier. Also, the first three bytes are not a company/OUI identifier and the bytes are uniformly distributed random values (produced in the chip production).  Note that this still has to be confirmed so if there are any changes in this information, I will let you know.
