Are Major Modem Firmware updates expected?

Hello, 

My questions is regarding to the modem firmware.

I am planning to ship an IoT product and am questioning wether I should include an external memory for modem FOTA updates.

I have read in this post from over 2 years ago that there are only planned to be patch releases for nrf9151. So that a delta FOTA with internal memory would be possible and that no external memory (with 4MB) would be needed.

My questions is wether this is still true and no Minor releases are planned for the nrf9151's future? As then no external memory would have to be included in my product.

Hi,

 

There are only planned patch-releases for mfw 2.0.x.

However, there is one scenario that you need to be aware of:

If you require NTN capabilities in a future firmware update, a full modem FOTA (ie. 4 MB flash) is required.
