range of Coded phy(S8) versus 1M in advertising

I just programmed 2 Boards.

One Peripheral advertising with 1m Phy and other peripheral with s8 codded phy.

Using NRF connect app and wire sharc I made sure that I really achieved the coded phy as well.

Now the question:

Inside my building the range where I still receive the advertisment packets is the same regardless of 1m or coded phy.

Is this expected?

  • Hi Klaus,

It depends on many factors. Could you please verify that you actually used CODED PHY ? On the nRF Connect App on the phone, it should say which Primay PHY and Secondary PHY was used. Please make sure both PHY are LE Coded.
Which environment did you test with, what's the result you had ?

Have you tried to test it outdoor? One of the challenge with CODED PHY is the high interference because of longer airtime and multipath reflections.
How much data do you put in the advertising packet ? A long advertising packet with 4x the length due to Coded PHY have higher chance of interference compare to a small 1Mbps PHY packet.
