NTN FW production-ready?

Hello,

Is modem fw `mfw_nrf9151-ntn_1.0.1` production-ready? Is it safe to have our manufacturer flash that instead of the `mfw_nrf91x1_2.0.4`. We are using the ncs-serial-modem v2.0.0 nrf91m1 build(on nRF9151 LACA chip).

Are we losing anything by going from `mfw_nrf91x1_2.0.4` to `mfw_nrf9151-ntn_1.0.1`?

Thanks,

  • Hello,

Are we losing anything by going from `mfw_nrf91x1_2.0.4` to `mfw_nrf9151-ntn_1.0.1`?

Adopting this approach would result in the loss of global certification status, a capability that NTN FW does not currently provide.
Furthermore, version 2.0.4 benefits from several years of real-world usage and accumulated experience, resulting in a higher level of maturity. As mfw_nrf9151-ntn_1.0.x is a more recent release, it has not yet achieved the same maturity level as the mainstream MFW.

    Yes, it is production ready.

We are using the ncs-serial-modem v2.0.0 nrf91m1 build

While there are no immediate concerns of using ncs-serial-modem v2.0.0 preview, waiting for the official v2.0.0 is recommended where feasible. This helps prevent issues stemming from the use of unofficial releases. Furthermore, the effort required to migrate to v2.0.0 may vary depending on the preview version in use.

    Kind regards,
    Øyvind
