nRF5340 Device Hang During Semi-Sleep – Watchdog Issue in NCS v2.5.0

Hi,

I am using the Nordic nRF5340 for my application, and I am facing an issue where the device occasionally gets stuck/hangs.

Around two years ago, I encountered a similar issue and contacted Nordic support. At that time, I was using the Watchdog functionality to recover the device from such hangs. Nordic support informed me that there was a known issue/bug related to the Watchdog, and suggested disabling it. After disabling the Watchdog, the issue was resolved.

Now, I am facing a similar hanging issue again after implementing semi-sleep/power-saving functionality in my application.

I am currently using nRF Connect SDK (NCS) v2.5.0.

Could someone please confirm:
1. Was the Watchdog-related issue on the nRF5340 resolved in newer NCS versions?
2. Is there any known issue with the Watchdog when using semi-sleep/power-saving modes?
3. Would upgrading from NCS v2.5.0 to a newer SDK version be recommended for this issue?

Any guidance or suggestions on debugging the root cause of the hang would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

  • Hello,

Do you have a link or ticket number for the support case you had earlier? I vaguely remember a bug in Zephyr's Task watchdog but don't recall the details and my searches did not yield any relevant results.

Now, I am facing a similar hanging issue again after implementing semi-sleep/power-saving functionality in my application.

Sounds like a separate issue. Are you looking to solve it by using the watchdog?

    Best regards,

    Vidar

  • Hello Vidar,

Unfortunately, I don't have the previous support ticket number or link, as it was raised by a former employee and I haven't been able to locate it. From what he told me, disabling the watchdog resolved the hanging issue at that time.

Yes, I'm currently facing a similar hanging issue after implementing the semi-sleep/power-saving functionality in my application. I was wondering if using the watchdog could help resolve this issue, provided the underlying problem is related to it.

    Best regards,
    Shreyash
