SoftDevice Controller / MPSL BabbleSim libraries for NCS v2.9.0

Hello,

We run our Bluetooth Mesh product firmware in BabbleSim, on a simulated nRF52840 (nrf_hw_models, native simulator). We are on nRF Connect SDK v2.9.0. We would like to use the SoftDevice Controller in the simulation, since our products ship with it.

NCS v2.9.0 already seems to support this:

  • BT_LL_SOFTDEVICE depends on SOC_SERIES_BSIM_NRFXX;
  • nrfxlib looks for the libraries in softdevice_controller/lib/bsim_nrf52 and mpsl/lib/bsim_nrf52 (CONFIG_MPSL_LIB_DIR).

However, v2.9.0 does not ship these libraries. They first appear in nrfxlib v3.1.0, under lib/nrf52_bsim.

We tried the v3.1.0 libraries with v2.9.0:

  • they link once hw_irq_ctrl_set_wake_even_if_lock() is backported to nrf_hw_models;
  • at runtime, the controller does not start ("HCI driver is not ready");
  • sdc.h changed between the two versions (SDC_MEM_* macros, buffer configuration in sdc_cfg_t), so we assume the ABI is incompatible.

Could you provide the BabbleSim builds (elf32-i386, soft-float) of the libraries matching nrfxlib v2.9.0?

  • SoftDevice Controller: multirole, peripheral, central;
  • MPSL;
  • MPSL FEM common.

If that is not possible, is NCS ≥ 3.1 the only supported way to use the SoftDevice Controller with BabbleSim?

Thank you.
