end of line tests for BLE modules

Hi
I have a NRF52833 module in my PCB design. Are there any end of line tests you would recommend at the end of my production line?(end of line tests)
I am using a Panasonic module.
Thanks

  • Hello,

(The information below was originally made for the nRF51-series, but should also work for later nRF52, nRF53 and nRF54-series. Though you need to check the specific SDK you are developing on to get the Direct Test Mode (DTM) project for your specific device.)

I suggest you start by checking out Setting up production test using DTM:
    https://nrfconnectdocs.nordicsemi.com/pdf/nan_34/nan_34.pdf

The pdf and python files can be downloaded from here if the link above is broken:

I did also make a small modification to show how to perform DTM testing as per Figure 2 (Page 6) of the nAN34_v1.0.pdf show. In essence the modified Python script puts a nRF52-DK (lower tester) to run the receive test only, and analyze and report the results from a DUT in TX only. A small example is also attached how to emulate a DUT for test:

You can add other self tests as you see fit (e.g. maybe you want to have some electrical tests for button, leds, display and power consumption to check for shorts in your product). The DTM should in any case be a good starting point.

Typically all qualification, verification and testing is done on a set of prototypes, and in production you then only test a few key parameters to verify the same performance as the prototypes. A functional test may still be something you want to add, though we don't have any specific guidelines other than the nAN-34.

    Hope that helps,
    Kenneth
