What is the use of PCA10040 in NRF52 DK.?

What is the use of of PCA10040 chip in NRF52 Development Kit(NRF52832 chipset). ? Do I need a programmer to program NRF523832 in the DK, Can I just program it through USB?

PCA10040 is not a chip, it identifies the PCB, that this is a nRF52 DK.

The label that PCA10040 is printed on is an interface MCU that can program the nRF52832 chipset.

From my experience, I guess the chip on which the label "PCA10040" is J-Link OB. This is On-Board version of famous J-Link Programmer/Debugger.

So just plug in the USB and you can program nrf52 chip easily.
