Audio Protocol for On Semi 7150SL Reference Design

Hi Everyone,

The On Semi 7150SL reference design incorporates a dongle that can stream stereo music to two hearing aids which are equipped with the Ezairo 7150 module. These modules utilize a nRF51822 as their wireless SOC. I am amazed at the 4-5 mA for the stereo streaming. This is apparently counting in the processing necessary on the On Semi Ezairo 7100. So three questions here:

  1. What wireless chip is inside the dongle that streams the stereo audio? Given the nRF51822 presence in the Ezairo 7150SL, I imagine it being the same chip in the dongle. However, I don't know how this would be possible. Which leads to the next question.

  2. The reference design makes use of a proprietary protocol for the wireless audio streaming. This makes sense as BLE doesn't support this. The question is this protocol a Nordic or On Semiconductor product? I have found a company Intricon that has a proprietary protocol for 2.4ghz that supports audio streaming for hearing aids. Interesting enough, On Semi is a strategic partner of theirs. Best guess, the protocol is a Intricon product. Anyone correct me here?

  3. This question is pretty obvious but just want to confirm. Given the use of nRF51822 in the reference design mentioned above, the nRF52832 could accomplish the same task and maybe even better given the i2s interface. Yes/No?
