nRF51822-BK proximity connection ways

I want to connect two nRF51822-BKs and find their proximity. If one of the beacons go >5m away from the other beacon then one should beep/LED ON.

What is the best way to do that?

1. Connect two beacons (master-slave)?
2. One advertise all time and other detect the RSSI. if it reaches RSSI equivilent to 5m then beep.
3. Is there any other way?

Are there any codes/tutorial available for this already? Please suggest implementation ways

I would recommend the connection based alternative, i.e. alternative 1, and use the RSSI to estimate the distance between the two beacons.

Thanks for the quick answer Bjørn. Could you please confirm if I have understood properly. I have two beacons, one will be programmed with ble_peripheral\ble_app_proximity and the other beacon should be programmed with a ble_central app right? Can two peripheral connect each other? or is it have to be always one peripheral and one central in order to make a connection? What is the suitable application example for the central beacon? Thanks
