So is this the successor to the Master Control Panel (MCP)?

Is it (or will it be) open-source?

Is there an API - like there was for MCP?

  • Hi awneil,

yes, you could say that nRF Connect is the successor to Master Control Panel for PC. It does most things that MCP can do, and already does many things MCP does not do, like cross platform and nRF52 support.

and yes, it will be open source.

Please see this blog post for more information.

As for API: nRF Connect uses a library called pc-ble-driver. The library has bindings for python and javascript. It is on github already, though note that it's currently quite lightweight on documentation and examples. This will be improved on over time.
