How to reduce power consumption with micro ESB library(no SD)?

HI, I am using micro esb(0db tx power, 250kbps, RX mode) from GitHub(github.com/.../nrf51-micro-esb). I am using nrf51822xxaa and SD10.0 and s130. With just the micro esb library, current consumption is around 18mA. Product spec(www.nordicsemi.com/.../nRF51822 shows Rx mode can go up to 13mA without DC-DC and 9.7mA with DC-DC. How do I reduce this apart from using DC-DC? Thanks.

Hi,

We recommend migrating to nrf_esb, please see this blogpost. Power efficiency is achieved by spending as little time as possible in RX/TX.

The specified current draw is for the RX module, additional currents like CPU come in addition. Again, the MCU should spend as much time as possible in sleep to increase efficiency.

Hi Oyvind,thanks for the reply. We use sdk version 10.0 and to use this new nrf_esb library, we need to migrate to sdk 11. At this point of time it is hard because, all our other code is based on sdk10.0 and it is almost the end of the project. So, is there a way to reduce current in the micro esb library itself? thanks

Hi,

The same principles still apply, use a DC/DC converter and manage the time the radio spends active.
