Cannot pair Nordic_HRM with Android 6.0.1 when using NFC

I'm playing around with the experimental ble hrs with NFC pairing example, and I cannot seem to get it to work with my Android 6.0.1 Moto X Pure. I tap the phone to the NFC antenna, and get the "Are you sure you want to pair the Bluetooth device Nordic_HRM" popup? I click "yes", and a little popup shows up on the bottom of the screen saying "Connecting...", and then about 2 seconds later I get another popup with "Could not connect to Nordic_HRM".

Anyone been able to pair the Nordic_HRM with Android 6.0.1 over NFC?

I believe the underlying issue is the implementation in the SDK, we've found the github link supplied to be much more reliable.
