Is Antenna included in reference layout for nrf51dk

Hi,

I have ordered a PCB using the reference schematic for NRF51422 user guide. I wanted to know whether the schematic has the required antenna design or I need to add anything more to it for bluetooth communication?

  • Assuming you are talking about one of the simple reference layouts for nrf51422/nrf51822 (I think there are 3 of them with different options) then no that doesn't contain an antenna, nor the matching network you need, it's your job to design the antenna for your board and incorporate it into the design. You can use a PCB printed antenna (Nordic has a white paper for that) or you can put on an antenna jack and plug in an antenna or you can use a chip antenna.

If you search the forums for posts about antenna design you'll find masses of information and links to all the white papers Nordic has published about antenna design and tuning.

Hopefully you haven't actually ordered this PCB yet as, without an antenna designed onto the board, it's not going to work.
