Hi Nyni,

Our recommendation is to follow the reference design.

Leaving the VSS pin C4 open may cause unexpected behavior. If you are doing the board simply for testing purpose, it may still work but it's not recommended.

The best solution is to redo the schematic and layout to connect the pin to ground properly.
