broadcast in proprietary protocol

Implementing my own protocol stack with low-level programming of the radio, can I broadcast by simply programming all units to receive the same address?

No addresses (such as zero) are distinguished for broadcasting purposes?

The address a device receives is not hardwired to a MAC address burned on the chip?

(I have only read the architecture white paper, and one other question describing a programmed set of addresses a receiver responds to.)

If you make your proprietary protocol, any address could be used as a "broadcast" address. (The only thing that you might want to remember is that a good address should have a number of transitions between 1's and 0's, so you should not use an address that is all zeros or all FF's.)
