Regarding nRF51822 Kit and Debugger

Hi all.

I am new in nRF BLE. I am planning to buy an nRF51822 Kit but little bit confused with choosing EK or DK. Actually my plan is after playing with the Native Kits I'll make a custom PCB with nRF51822.

Two ques for now please:

  • If I order the DK only without nRF Go Starter Kit. So only DK is enough to test and debug? Or the Starter Kit is a must? Without the Starter Kit will I loose any feature?

  • After making my custom PCB can I use a standard 20 PIN J-Link Emulator (by using 20 PIN to 10 PIN Converter) to debug nRF51822 on my custom PCB? Or nRF51822 only allow debug from the J-Link Lite which comes with the DK?

Thanks in advance.

Regards.

  • Hi,

The nRFgo Starter kit is a required baseboard if you order the nRF51822 Development kit. If you want a standalone kit, I would recommend getting the nRF51822 Evaluation kit. The EV-kit also comes with an on-board debugger.

If your SEGGER debugger has SWD support, then using a 20 pin -> 10 pin converter will work.

Is it this one you already have? www.segger.com/jlink_base.html

  • Hi Håkon.

    Thanks for your advise.

Yes, I have the SEGGER J-Link. So I am going to buy the EK.
