Programmer for NRF51822

Hello,

I just purchased this device: www.aliexpress.com/.../32399375500.html

but found out that evaluation board is only a debugger and does not actually program the board.

Before I buy, I just wanted to make sure that the debugger and programmer below is the only hardware I will need to buy to program the NRF51822 board using NRFGO studio.

Thanks for the help!

  • I just have the board with all the pins made accessible (i.ebayimg.com/.../s-l1600.jpg) but no additional components - so I am guessing it should be fine (not sure about the 32k ram but I am not making any intensive programs). Thanks Wojtek.

  • Yes if you are using a debugger with J-Link firmware nRF Go *should work. My recommendation would be to use nrfjprog since it is generally more reliable than nRFGo, especially when you are doing 'out of the oridinary' things like you are. it will give good error messages so you can figure out problems quickly. infocenter.nordicsemi.com/.../nrf5x_nrfjprogexe.html

  • Hi,

P&E has a simple programmer for the NRF51822 called the the USB Multilink Universal. You'll also need the PROGACMP software. This combination will allow you to program flash via a GUI manually. PROGACMP also includes a commandline version that can run via batch files so the steps can be automated. There is also a more advanced FX version of the USB Multilink Universal that can supply 3.3V or 5V to the target board.

If you want a more robust production level programmer, P&E has the Cyclone Universal. It is stand alone, can provide power, has internal flash memory to store programming images, and a touch screen for programming image selection.
