Current consumption nrf8001 in conn. with no RX/TX

how much in uAs will the nrf8001 uses while connected to the smartphone but with no RX/TX happening?

  • Hi,

Have you looked at the nRF8001 current consumption calculator that's embedded into nRFgo Studio (top left corner, click on "nRF8001 Configuration", and then you should see a tab called "Current Consumption" in the right corner)? That should give you a indication on what the current consumption should be.

  • Hakon,

I do not have the nRFgo Studio, sorry I didn't tell you about that! Actually I have nrf8001 on my custom PCB and not the development kit offered by Nordic.

Also I have an app(on Google Play!) for nrf8001 current calculation ,under its Connection state current calculator I have the following options :

Crystal tolerance : which I selected 40ppm depending on the crystal Im using.

and deselected the 32khz crystal as Im using a 32khz crystal external one and not the internal one. battery capacity as 50mAh as using a coin cell.

    and connection interval as 120ms.

I want to know for example that if the nrf8001 is connected everyday to a mobile device for around 10minutes everyday and connection on an average happens for 5 times then what could be the average current draw?

  • Hi Nishant,

I would suggest that you use the calculator in nRFgo Studio, as this is a bit more accurate and it's an official tool from Nordic. You can download the nRFgo Studio application freely from our website: www.nordicsemi.com/.../nRFgo-Studio

Input the numbers for your application and you will get an approximated current. You will have to add current consumption of your external MCU.

    Best regards Håkon
